I used to watch X-files when I was a kid, and I loved it and it scared the shit out of me. Not so long ago I decided to re-watch the whole series from the start, but I didn’t get so far because…I’m not good with commitments.
Anyway, at least in the first episodes, Scully is the scientist who’s struggling to make sense of all the strange things she sees, often closing her eyes not to see something that could shake her belief system. In this sense, I had the impression that Scully was initially portrayed as a character lacking wonder, and close-minded in some way. I also had the impression that the screenwriters wanted to say that, because Scully choose to believe in scientific explanations, she can’t be as brilliant as Mulder.
My analysis could be all wrong, I admit I’m not a great expert on X-files.
But I like Scully!

I always thought Scully’s role was to make Moulder look like your average conspiracy theorist. She has such a broad range of knowledge.
