is time dilation real? and if so how does it work? is it true that if i travelled at the speed of light around the earth for 15 minutes i'd only age that much while my friends age like 20 years?!
Knowing that I’m not very good at explaining this kind of things (maybe because I don’t quite understand them) I suggest you to watch: A tale of two twins and to read the wikipedia page about the Twin paradox. It’s a start, and maybe some follower can suggests some other source of informations…

Stephen Hawking’s recent series (Into the Universe, I think?) talks about this. I believe it’s the time travel one. And Hawking is THE best at explaining things, so I suggest that.

1. Yes time dilation is real. The GPS satellites that orbit around the earth do so at a speedthat require engineers to take note of this effect. See goo.gl/48YjQ in the next few days for a explanation.

It’s all relative. If you travel nearly the speed of light ‘relative’ to another object you will experience time differently ‘relative’ to said object and vice-versa. To you and the object, time will pass normally.

If you travelled at the speed of light at all you’d cease to experience time at all. The entire duration of your stay there would be instantaeneous to you, but it’s irrelevant anyway because you can never get to it.
